Map Information=== *Author: Cannis *Map Name: Switchback Ridge v.2 *Game Supported: Red Alert 2 *Players: 2 *Size: 60x60 *Theater: Temperate *Resources: Lots and lots *Format: .MPR *File Size: 88Kb *Online Transfer: Enabled *Editors Used: FA2-Yuri, XCC Mixer, Wordpad, Paint Shop Pro *Map Release Date: 11/26/01 ===2. Map Description=== A small one-on-one map where the base areas are separated by higher ground. And it's the high ground that you want, too... don't let your opponent get it. You'll find some very special lighting on this map. All player-built structures emit light - a single structure emits negligible light but a fully-developed base can look pretty dramatic. Also - theatrical lightning effects added! This is an updated version of Switchback Ridge (switchback_ridge.mpr) that was released on 6/14/2001. If you have this file in your RA2 folder, please delete it. Changes in version 2.0: -Theatrical lightning effects added. -Oil derricks now emit light when captured. -Skirmish AI now strives to capture all its derricks quickly. -Better map preview. -Preview image included and updated readme file. Tips: Take and hold the high ground immediately, and begin the attack on your opponent's base using the greater range offered by placing units on cliffs. ===3. Requirements=== You need to have Red Alert 2 installed and patched up to at least v1.005 to play this map. If an earlier version of the game is used, player starting positions may be randomized yielding unexpected results. ===4. Install & Run=== *Included files: switchback_ridge2.mpr (the map) switchback_ridge2_RA2.gif (preview image) switchback_ridge2_RA2.txt (this file) Place switchback_ridge2.mpr in your \RA2\ directory. Start RA2, and the map should appear on the map list. Battle/FFA, Meatgrinder, Nukewar, and Airwar game modes are supported. This is an updated version of Switchback Ridge (switchback_ridge.mpr) that was released on 6/14/2001. If you have this file in your RA2 folder, please delete it. ===5. Modifications=== -All player-built structures emit light. The more structures you build, and the closer together you build them, the brighter that light will be. The light effect is persistant even during a Weather Storm. Oil derricks will emit light as well, but only after they are captured. -Skirmish AI now considers it a high priority to capture all of its Oil Derricks early in the game. -Mirage tanks mimic more and different trees than the same old 4 you're used to seeing. -Naval shipyards are not buildable, since there's no water on the map anyway. This keeps a useless icon from appearing on the structure list. ===6. Known Bugs=== -When playing this map under a mod which adds new structure build options, the new structure types will not emit light. This won't cause any problems however. ===7. MapEditing Notes=== The first version of this map, 'Switchback Ridge' for RA2, was a 'companion' map to 'Switchback Ravine', which in turn was the first map I made using the then-newly-released Final Alert2 Beta. The addition of framework mode and the enhancement of the raise/lower field tools let me easily modify 'Ravine' into 'Ridge'. With the release of Yuri's Revenge and FA2-Yuri, I have begun porting my RA2 maps over to YR. When looking this map over I decided it would benefit from the addition of the theatrical lightning effects that I first used in 'Frigid Triangle - NightOps', and the use of FA2Y's AITrigger editor to convince the AI to capture all of the nearby oil derricks rather than let them sit there untouched. So I felt these improvements warranted an updated release of the map. As far as INI changes go, in this map I've modded every single player-built structure to emit light. Rather than list them all I'll just use one representative building type (Aliied Con Yard). Open the MPR file in Wordpad to see all INI changes made. For details concerning ambient light changes, please see the readme file included with 'Frigid Triangle NightOps'. All INI changes are documented below. [AudioVisual] ; Ambient light property changes to support lightning effects AmbientChangeRate=.01 AmbientChangeStep=.8 [GACNST] ; Allied Con Yard emits light (as do all other player-built structures, and oil derricks LightRedTint=0.10 ; Red light component LightBlueTint=0.01 ; Blue light component LightGreenTint=0.08 ; Green light component LightIntensity=0.01 ; Overall light brightness LightVisibility=3000 ; Distance light will travel ; Some notes on the above: ; -the smallest absolute value for the color components is 0.01 ; -the smallest absolute non-zero value for intensity is 0.01 ; -visibility is measured in leptons. Each map cell is 256 leptons across.
